Learning outcomes 1. Provide economic analytical tools to approach theoretical and empirical issues in health;
2. Understand and analyze the healthcare markets organization and performance;
3. Provide economic tools applied to the evaluation of health issues and public policies;
4. Develop research skills in the field of health economics.

On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
i. Use alternative economic theoretical and empirical tools to analyze health practices;
ii. Discuss critically relevant health economic concepts and theories related to interaction between health care providers, patients, governments and insurers;
iii. Critically use approaches of economic evaluation of practices and policies in health;
iv. Reflect upon the factors that favor inequalities in the distribution of health and health care;
v. Comment on scientific articles on health systems performance from relevant journals in the field of health economics;
vi. Develop research designs in economics

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The following methods and forms of study are used in this course: lectures, classes, and self-study. Lectures are designed to help students to understand the main concepts of the course.
To complement and reinforce concepts, lectures will be given primarily through slides, with discussions and classroom presentations. All content in lectures are assessable through UBI-Moodle.
