Scientific area Design Industrial
Entry requirements N.A.
Learning outcomes Train students with knowledge and practical skills to implement industrial design projects of higher complexity, covering the entire scope of the design process
Deepening of design capabilities, coordinating the various areas fundamental to the construction of a project, developing capabilities in research, concept definition, drawing, development, modelmaking, basic 3D modeling, basic rendering, detailed 3D modeling, photorealistic rendering, detailed technical drawing, communication, post-production and presentation
Develop practical skills for the development of new types of products, which integrate technology, competitive, designed for people, obeying the requirements of inclusivity and sustainability
Establish a strong relationship between design and technology, in production and in results Develop skills in managing the design process, multidisciplinary and multitasking
Development of the capacity to defend the decisions and approaches taken during the development of the project
Syllabus Development of two projects of high complexity simultaneously, one of medium scale and one of larger dimension. And with technical and conceptual diversity between the two.
Deepening of the criteria to consider in the design process: needs, functionality, usability, interaction / interface, ergonomics, technology, materials, resources, distribution, marketing, branding, social, environmental, among others.
Introduction of the topic, analysis of examples and related authors. Constraints.
Research: Benchmarking. Critical analysis and debate. Research conclusions, strategy definition.
Concept: Definition of basic concept. Initial sketches, selection of versions to explore.
Initial development: Product design and detail design. Manual layout of exploratory volumes. Hits and changes. 3D modeling. Initial renders.
Final development: Detailed 3D modeling, mock-up. Final renders. Detailed technical drawings. Post-Production and Packaging. Presentation.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Project-based discipline with theoretical support content defined and discussed in the project context. Development of individual projects simultaneously. Each project developed in four phases: research, concept definition, product development, final development. Each student will have individual and rotational monitoring. This UC will have support from the Product Engineering UC 1 in the technical development of the projects. Research, concept, development and communication evaluated according to: conceptual and technical quality, balance, adequacy, coherence and consistency, affordance and honesty, usability, durability. Each job has two deliveries of 20% each, the failure being any eliminatory delivery. Each score corresponds to the total performance in the respective phase of the work and not to the material delivered. Discipline without exam or possibility of improvement. Continuous assessment and
participation (20%).
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
