Learning outcomes This curricular unit aims to encourage reflection on the ethical issues associated with journalistic practice and raise awareness of the importance of professional ethics, highlighting the role of journalism in the general and ethical-moral training of individuals.
At the end of this curricular unit, the student must be able to (i) explain the role and value of professional ethics; (ii) state the main contents of journalistic ethics; (iii) discuss the assumptions and implications of journalists’ code of ethics; (iv) evaluate journalistic practice in light of ethical principles and deontological standards.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria
Theoretical-practical classes, with expository, dialogical moments, text analysis and case studies.

a) An individual text analysis work on a topic from points 1 and 2 of the program (40%). With oral presentation.

b) An individual work of i) ethical analysis of a journalistic work (television, printed, radio or digital) that violates norms of the code of ethics for Portuguese journalists and ii) reformulation of the news (40%);

c) A group work to propose a revision of the code of ethics (20%).

d) participation in classes

During the period scheduled for exams, students will have the opportunity to redo a piece of work if it is necessary to improve their grade.
