Learning outcomes This course aims to enable students to:

- critically examine the philosophical foundations of ethics, including virtue ethics, consequentialism, and deontology;

- understand the specific professional deontology of journalism, including its normative, legal, and institutional basis;

- analyze ethical dilemmas in journalistic practice, such as truth, responsibility, neutrality, bias, power relations, and public commitment;

- explore the vocational, professional, and public dimensions of journalism, evaluating tensions between mission, profession, and resistance;

- reflect on the relationship between journalist, public, and truth, considering ethics of care, otherness, and narrative responsibility;

- develop analytical competencies in ethical reasoning and professional judgment.
Syllabus Philosophical Foundations of Ethics and Critical Attitude
Core concepts: action, duty, virtue, utility, responsibility, and moral judgment. Critical reflection on decision-making in public and professional life according to virtue ethics, utilitarianism, and deontology.

Ethical Paradigms and Professional Application
Comparison of classical models and their relevance for moral deliberation.

Professional Deontology in Journalism
Nature, function, and limits of deontological codes; legal and institutional framework; duties, rights, and social responsibility of journalists.

Responsibility, Vocation, and Journalistic Dilemmas
Journalism as vocation and profession; analysis of ethical dilemmas under the ethics of responsibility.

Journalist, Public, Power, and Truth
Ethical relationship between journalist and public. Tensions between neutrality, bias, and the interaction of information and power.

Truth, Narrative, and Practical Application
Analysis of cases and professional trajectories.
