Learning outcomes Provide students with conceptual frameworks of theoretical and practical help to be innovators or creators of social conditions for innovation.
The main goal of this course unit is to provide and develop analytical competences around the concept of social innovation different contexts and agents. Analise the question of lidership, the social innovation process and the diffusion and evaluation.
Syllabus I - The concept of Social Innovation:
1 - The concept of innovation and its types;
2 - Social innovation: the context and the concept.
II - Europe, institutional frameworks and incentives for social innovation:
3 - The EU and the challenge of social innovation;
4 - Initiatives in Portugal.
III - Fields and initiatives:
5 - Social innovation in a rural context;
6 - Social incubators and community development;
7 - Mechanisms and instruments for developing social innovation.
IV - Social impact and replicability:
8 - Social utility and social impact;
9 - Challenges of replicability and the ecosystem favourable to the development of social innovation.

Assessment methods: individual presentation of a case study; group preparation of an analytical test; debates in class; final exam.
