Learning outcomes |
The UC "Seminar on Forms and Dynamics of the City" proposes a reflection on the contemporary city in light of the societal transformations in the course. It is intended to explore the multiple facets of the urban, framed in its historical, territorial, social, cultural, economic, and political dimensions. Identify challenges, analyze processes and practices, and understand their impact on new architectures and ways of living and planning and managing urban space. It is also proposed that future scenarios of urban transformation be speculated in a sustained way.
A critical and questioning approach to producing knowledge and models is assumed. Innovative, interdisciplinary and relevant research is promoted.
Based on these objectives, the students are intended to i) identify problems and critically reflect on contemporary urban complexity and ii) build an integrated approach to produce practical knowledge, aiming at a final academic and socially relevant work.

Syllabus |
The program is deployed in different aspects, corresponding to different facets of the urban phenomenon. Throughout the seven planned sessions, different problems are posed to raise concerns and promote reflection and a broad perspective on contemporary urban complexity. This approach will address the following themes: 1. Framework; 2. Cities and Gender Perspective; 3. City, form and morphology; 4. Architecture, City, Public Space, researching the Urban; 5. New Urban Challenges: Tourism, Sustainability and The City.
