Learning outcomes To understand the dynamics of production, construction, circulation, and reception of journalistic information in contemporary societies, analysing journalism as a social, discursive, and professional practice.

To analyse the main theoretical and methodological paradigms of research within Journalism Studies, including news theories, news selection processes, news values, framing, and explanatory models of media effects.

To reflect on the challenges posed by transformations in the media ecosystem, particularly the changes brought about by digital journalism, technological convergence, and new forms of information production and consumption in the Internet Era.

To develop analytical and research skills that enable students to critically examine the role of journalism in the social construction of reality, the formation of public opinion, and the functioning of the public sphere, articulating theoretical reflection with professional practice.

5. Agenda-setting, framing and priming
6. Professional journalism and normative values
7. Journalism, power and the public sphere: spiral of silence + public opinion
8. Effects of news: powerful effects, limited effects and uses and gratifications
9. Journalism and discourse: language and news narrative
10. Digital journalism and contemporary transformations
