Learning outcomes The Curricular Unit's general objective is to provide students with knowledge and tools that allow them to have basic notions of what scientific research is and its importance in Sports Sciences. Thus, at the end of the Curricular Unit, the student must be able to: 1. Understand the basic concepts of the scientific method, including the formulation of research problems and hypotheses; 2. Know the stages of the scientific method; 3. Develop the ability to carry out bibliographic research in the main indexing bases; 4. Understand the importance of complying with ethical standards in scientific research; 5. Understand the principles of science communication, including scientific writing and bibliographic references; 6. Understand the importance of scientific research in Sports Sciences, in its most diverse areas.

Literature review and bibliographic research in Sports Sciences 6. Structure of a scientific article 7. Communication in science: scientific writing and bibliographic referencing styles

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The assessment includes: 1 - A group work with oral presentation on contents 1, 2, 3 and 4. Students must analyze two scientific articles in the area of Sports Sciences and identify the central theme, research problem(s), objective(s) and study hypothesis(es). 2 – An individual work on contents 5, 6 and 7. Students must select a scientific article in the area of Sports Sciences in an indexed database, analyze its structure and critically reflect on its impact on the advancement of knowledge in area. Final grade = Weighted average 1 and 2 If final grade < 6, disapproved
