Learning outcomes From a theoretical-conceptual, sociological and anthropological basis, to analyze the importance of ethnic/racial-cultural-religious-identity difference in the configuration of social and political relations, in national and international contexts, namely between Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries. At the end of the curricular unit, the student should be able to understand racial-ethnic-cultural differences as an intrinsic quality of human nature and analyze the role of human diversity in intercultural relations, in the context of globalization.
Syllabus 1. Human diversity: geographic, biological and cultural/civilizational dimensions.
2. The concepts of: race/racism; ethnicity/ethnicity; minorities and interethnic relations; multiculturalism; cultural relativism; refugees; nation/nationalism and state.
3. Inter-racial-ethnic-cultural and religious relations: theoretical problematization and concepts definition.
4. Ethnic and religious minorities and intercultural relations in the context of globalization.
5. Multiculturality/Interculturality
6. Case studies, in national and international contexts
