Spatial Analysis and Georeferenced Information

Code 17838
Year 4
Semester S2
ECTS Credits 5
Workload TP(45H)
Scientific area Sistemas de Informação Geográfica
Entry requirements No formal prerequisites are required.
Learning outcomes The Curricular Unit aims to provide theoretical-practical knowledge in the domain of spatial representation and analysis of diverse georeferenced information, underpinning technical decision-making, optimizing the management of territories, systems and infrastructures, and evaluating evolving scenarios.
It develops the following competencies:
A) Mastery of data acquisition, processing and spatial analysis techniques for diagnosis, planning, project development and management;
B) Understanding of the objectives and functionalities of GIS;
C) Knowledge of integrated digital spatial representation formats;
E) Recognition of the potential of advanced spatial analysis in Architecture.
These objectives align with the teaching method (theoretical-practical classes), as theoretical exposition provides conceptual foundations, while practice promotes autonomous and progressive application, fitting the student-centered pedagogical model.
Syllabus 1. Evolution of geographic information.
2. Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
3. Geographic referencing systems: plane/sphere coordinates, Earth's shape, geodesy, datum, projections and transformations.
4. Data models: imagery and geographic (vector, raster).
5. Geographic databases: hierarchical/network/relational models, operations and DBMS.
6. Acquisition/processing of graphic/alphanumeric data: typologies, public data, operations, quality analysis.
7. Vector spatial analysis operations: measurements, queries, neighborhood, overlay.
8. Graphical representation of georeferenced information.
9. Remote sensing and digital modeling.
10. WebGIS, mobile GIS, augmented reality, automation. BIM. 3D modeling, photogrammetry restitution, stereophotogrammetry, laser scanning.
