Entry requirements The course has no formal prerequisites; however, it assumes that students have successfully completed the Design Studio courses of the two semesters of the previous academic year.
Learning outcomes To explore architectural solutions for different scales of dwelling (minimum, collective and/or itinerant), integrated within low-density heritage contexts;
To develop architectural design and communication skills through the production of models, graphic studies and portfolios;
To foster the civic and critical awareness of the architect as an active citizen, capable of intervening in real contexts and engaging in dialogue with local communities.
Syllabus Theme: Housing, Place and Context. Designing in a Real Context.
Definition of the intervention programme in collaboration with the Association of Historical Villages of Portugal (AHP);
Study of contemporary references in heritage intervention;
Development of a coherent architectural project, integrating:
- rehabilitation and pre-existing structures;
- contemporary housing;
- public space and collective uses;
Production of working models and graphic studies to consolidate the proposal;
Final synthesis including a public presentation, an exhibition in a real context, and the preparation of a digital catalogue in partnership with the AHP.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Students will be supervised by the course coordinator during theoretical–practical classes, which operate exclusively in a face-to-face format.
In the laboratory practice classes, design projects are developed and monitored by the teaching staff of the course, in addition to presentation and critique sessions involving all groups. These classes will be taught simultaneously in the same classroom by Professors Jorge Marum, Roberto Ragazzi and Rogério Galante.
