Learning outcomes |
The pedagogical objectives of the course are defined in terms of skills to be acquired by students, prioritized into three levels, in order of decreasing depth and relative semester workload. Proficiency of a) Linear-elastic analysis of statically indeterminate frame structures by the Force Method; b) Analysis of statically indeterminate structures under rolling loads, with influence lines. Understanding of a) Application of energy principles in structures; b) Automatic calculation of structures with computer software. Recognition of a) Need for second order analysis; b) Plastic analysis of frame structures.

Syllabus |
THEORETICAL CLASSES 1. Introduction. 2. Modeling of frame type structures. 3. Analysis of statically indeterminate structures using the “Force method”. 4. Trusses, continuous frames and mixed structures. 5. Energy principles. 6. Influence lines on statically indeterminate structures. 7. Plastic analysis of frame structures.
PRACTICAL CLASSES Solving practical exercises proposed in 4 sets (total of about 50 exercises)

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
1. Teaching methodology: The syllabus is presented in two types of classes: theoretical and practical. The students can consult the teachers for individual clarification of doubts and visit the Structural Laboratories to contact with research works.
2. Evaluation criteria: CEA=0,05×AUL+0,60×TES+0,10×TOR+0,10×PO1+0,15×PO2 CF=CEA if TES>CEX CF=0,05×AUL+0,60×CEX+0,10×TOR+0,10×PO1+0,15×PO2, if CEX>TES CF = Final score (0-20) AUL = Participation in practical classes (0-20) TES = Written test (0-20) PO1 = 1st Oral examination (0-20) PO2 = 2nd Oral examination (0-20) TOR = Oriented practical exercises (0-20)
