Learning outcomes |
This course has the main objective of providing students with methodological knowledge about the various stages of the research process in Economics, leading them in the elaboration of several scientific works, particularly their doctoral thesis. It is intended that they learn to identify the relevant results of the research process and produce the first version of their thesis proposal.
The competences acquired by the students are the capacities of defining, producing and presenting work of scientific nature.
It is also intended to familiarize students with the research environment of the host institutions of the doctoral program.

1 - The research environment of the Doctoral Program in Economics:
1.1 - Presentation of host institutions, research lines and centers
1.2 - Presentation of bibliographic, data and software
2 - Identification of relevant research
2.1 - The Credible Sources of Literature
2.2 - Rankings of international journals and bibliometric measures
3 - Direct contact with research results
3.1 - Attendance of seminars and conferences
3.2 - Meetings with researchers from the different areas involved in the program
4 - Research planning
4.1 - Identification of the student’s research area
4.2 - Research, selection and first analysis of relevant literature
4.3 - Pioneering references
4.4 - Data sources
4.5 - Identification of possible supervisors
5 - The process of scientific writing
5.1 - The structure of an article: Formal and stylistic aspects

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Teaching sessions are occupied with topics relevant to the development of research work. Students are also advised to attend seminars or conference sessions held by the research centers to which the professors linked to the doctoral program belong. According to the objectives of this discipline, the assessment of skills acquisition will take into account active participation in classes (5%), oral presentation of a first version of the thesis project (25%) and a written version of the thesis project (70%).
