Learning outcomes |
Objectives:
Provide students with knowledge in drinking water supply systems and wastewater drainage systems, enabling them to design, operate, and maintain both public and building water and wastewater networks.
Skills:
1) Proficiency in the design and sizing of water transmission and storage systems.
2) Proficiency in the design, sizing, and modelling of public drinking water distribution networks.
3) Proficiency in the design and sizing of public domestic wastewater drainage networks.
4) Understanding of the design and sizing of building water supply systems and wastewater and rainwater drainage systems.

Syllabus |
1. DRINKING WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS
Water supply systems: Design principles and sizing criteria. Water transmission pipelines (function, key components, layout, and sizing). Storage reservoirs (function, key components, location, capacity, and sizing).
2. PUBLIC WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS
Types of distribution networks. Horizontal and vertical layout. Design criteria and hydraulic sizing. Application of the Hardy-Cross method. Fittings and accessories. Network modelling using EPANET software.
3. PUBLIC WASTEWATER DRAINAGE NETWORKS
Types of drainage networks. Horizontal and vertical layout. Design criteria and hydraulic sizing. Drainage network modelling using SWMM software.
4. BUILDING WATER SUPPLY AND DRAINAGE SYSTEMS (WASTEWATER AND RAINWATER)
Design of building water supply networks, wastewater drainage, and rainwater drainage systems. Key components. Design criteria and hydraulic calculations.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
1. Two practical assignments (TP1 and TP2) carried out in pairs (groups of two students): TP1 (25.0%) + TP2 (25.0%).
2. Assessment of the final-term test or final exam (CEA): 50.0%.
3. Minimum required score for the test: 7.0/20.0 points (required to be eligible for the final exam).
4. Minimum required score for each practical assignment: 10.0/20.0 points.
