Learning outcomes |
1. Acquire knowledge of a set of concepts and themes that fall within the domain of political theory. 2. Understand the various dimensions of communication in the political phenomenon. 3. Get to know the main themes and issues that animate contemporary political, social and philosophical reflection. 4. Reflect, argue and debate critically on the problem of political information and its importance in democracy. 5. Formulate critical judgements on contemporary political and social issues, exercising their logical and argumentative skills, establishing correlations and promoting the understanding and problematisation of contemporary reality. 6. Develop skills and interest in the public debate of ideas.

Syllabus |
1. Is the world getting worse? - Perception and reality. 2. Democracy - Crisis of representation and participation? 3. Democracy and human rights. 4. The main problems of politics: freedom and political power; social justice; the vertices of public and private (public or private square?); freedom and security policy; information and communication in politics (the duty to inform and the right to know); freedom and ethics in politics, narrative, the construction of facts, the problem of lies and truth in politics (fake news and post-truth); cyber-democracy. 5. Contexts and models of democratic participation: at school and university, at work, in civil society institutions, in local and central government, and in the media. 6. Ideological families and political ideas: Does talking about Right and Left still make sense? 7. Introduction to the most representative contemporary political theories (reading and discussion of crucial texts).
