Ano 1
Semestre S1
Créditos ECTS 10
Carga Horária TP(150H)
Área Científica Arquitetura
Learning outcomes The UC of Project I/1 has as main objectives: i) the introduction to the general problems of Architecture; ii) the construction of individual working methodologies; iii) understanding of the concept as a basis to the process of design; iv) the understanding of the practices of representation and communication. The skills to be acquired are:
To know how to define a concept idea;
To know how to build/speculate about a program;
To know how to analyze a territory and understand the project as a moment of synthesis;
To know how to define implementation strategies and volumetric definition;
To produce hierarchical systems and To perceive the relations between public/private space; inside/outside; container/content...;
To propose simple building materials and systems in relation to design concepts;
To master the practices and processes of representation and improve ways of communicating ideas;
To know how to interpret/criticize a project.
Syllabus The first semester begins with an approach to urban space, through an exploratory walk in Covilhã, with the production of graphic and photographic elements.
The first exercise explores the theme of the concept as a basis for design work and the practices of representing of that concept. Starting from a pre-existing space, the exercise aims its survey and geometric construction, which will be the basis for a minimal intervention, with the pretext of exploring the themes of the placement, but also essential values in architecture, such as the route, scale, or light.
The second exercise proposes a reflection on the relations between Architecture and Landscape, in a natural context. At the same time, it consists of a first approximation to the theme of the small Equipment, valuing the essential aspects that based on its constitution, through the interpretation of the concept of Minimum Living Space.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Pedagogy will focus on three interrelated components:
- theoretical classes on themes and contents of the program, and framing of the different phases of the practical project exercises;
- practical project exercises defined in the curriculum program and in the statements for the semester, with stages of increasing level of complexity, according to the predefined objectives;
- critical monitoring classes of the different phases of practical project exercises - presentation and critical discussion in class and tutorial follow-up.
Evaluation:
- continuous evaluation with communication of qualitative notes assigned at the end of each phase of the project and after discussion and delivery of the works;
- at the end of the semester it is made the evaluation of all the work produced, which will have a final classification measured with equity in the universe of students who developed this program.
