Learning outcomes Develop design skills that respond in an integrated way to housing needs, considering the specificities of place and intervention context;
Promote historical, cultural, and social contextualization and its influence on the thinking of inhabited space;
Introduce and develop design methodologies that integrate analysis, synthesis, and creativity in the conception of well-founded architectural solutions (idea, concept, and process);
Develop urban analysis and intervention skills, enabling students to conduct sensitive and integrated interventions in urban revitalization and requalification exercises;
Develop competencies in graphic representation and model-making, enhancing the design and communication aspects of Architecture;
Raise awareness of the role of the Architect-Citizen as an active citizen, committed to solving real problems, shifting the paradigm from “what we can build” to “what we should build.”
Syllabus The syllabus focuses on the relationship between analysis and design within the project process, covering the following themes:
Interpretative analysis and characterization of the urban, cultural, and social context (What needs? What audiences? What concerns? Etc.);
Intervention in consolidated urban areas;
Creation of a framework of analogies and complex relationships (History, Place, and Language);
Defining architectural references to support the design process (contributing to the construction of a mental library of references);
Development of the notion of public and private space;
Human scale and architectural scale in the relationship between form, meaning, function, and context;
Design of a mixed-use building that includes housing, incorporating private and communal functions, both indoor and outdoor, in relation to public space;
Introduction to construction concepts, considering both physical implications and issues of representation.
