1. Problematization of introductory concepts: “Lusophony”, “Hispanism”, “Iberian studies”, “Spanish-American literature(s)”.
2. A synoptic overview of Hispanic-American literature(s) from the colonial period to the end of the 19th century.
3. The 20th century: postmodernism, vanguardism, post-vanguardism, “realismo mágico” and “real maravilloso”, “boom”, post-“boom”. Some authors and
crucial works.
3.1. Two poets: Pablo Neruda and Octavio Paz.
3.2. The short story: Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar.
3.3. The essay: Octavio Paz and Eduardo Galeano.
3.4. The novel: Alejo Carpentier, ‘El reino de este mundo’; Carlos Fuentes, ‘La muerte de Artemio Cruz’; Gabriel García Márquez, ‘Cien años de soledad’;
Juan Rulfo, ‘Pedro Páramo’; Mario Vargas Llosa, ‘Conversación en la catedral’.
