Learning outcomes |
- Integrate the different methods of optometric examination to study and determine the refractive state.
- Identify and recognize the characteristics, signs and symptoms of various refractive defects and relate them to the phenomenon of aging.

Syllabus |
Knowledge, understanding and clinical skills should be demonstrated in the areas of:
(1) refractive states of the eye,
(2) presbyopia mechanism,
(3) refractive changes related to age,
(4) epidemiology, history and symptoms of refractive anomalies,
(5) observation and recognition of clinical signs,
(6) identification, compensation and follow-up of refractive anomalies through ophthalmic lenses and contact lenses.
(7) objective and subjective techniques of exploration of the refractive state.

(1) Retinoscopy (Static and Mohindra)
(2) Keratometry
(3) Visual acuity
(4) Monocular, biocular and binocular subjective
(5) Refractive Examination (Focimeter, Case History, Visual Acuity, Retinoscopy and Subjective

Teaching methodologies integrating: tutorials, problproblem-solving exemplification, practical classes (skills), performing a case history, self-study. Student evaluation resorting to written tests, skill tests , case history evaluation.
