Learning outcomes Within the curricular unit, the student must 1) identify Applied Linguistics as a transdisciplinary area; 2) recognize the importance of Applied Linguistics in the
development of methods and approaches to language teaching, as well as in the creation of teaching materials and resources; 3) reveal knowledge about
psychological processes implicit in the production of verbal language; 4) recognize in discourse the power of creation and maintenance of cultural substratum
and ; ideological formationand 5) confirm Computational Linguistics as a uniting area of Linguistics and Informatics and identify different computer tools for
language processing.
Syllabus 1. Theoretical issues of Applied Linguistics as a transdisciplinary area.
2. Linguistics Applied to Teaching.
3. Psycholinguistics.
4. Linguistics and Discourse.
5. Computational Linguistics.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The classes/sessions assume an expository character on the different points that constitute the syllabus. Sessions are also held to discuss articles and other
texts dedicated to the theoretical scope of the UC, which require prior reading.
The assessment in this Curricular Unit results from the simple arithmetic average of two assessment tests of different nature: the completion of a written test,
rated from 0 to 10 points (50% of the final assessment), and the preparation of a work dedicated to a theme previously proposed by the teacher, work also
rated from 0 to 10 points (50% of the final evaluation).
