Learning outcomes The Aesthetics and Criticism course aims to contribute to the acquisition of skills specific to understanding the various methodologies of aesthetic and critical analysis of Architecture. In this context, it is assumed that students have mastered knowledge, concepts and tools with a view to introducing them to methods of aesthetic and critical questioning and reasoning. An analysis of various conceptual configurations acquired through reading texts, oral and written expression, discussion, participation and cooperation is required.
Syllabus Introduction. Notions of Aesthetics and Criticism.
1. Aesthetics in the emergence of a problematic of synthesis.
2. Science of beauty (Plato) x science of sensitive knowledge.
3. Nature and value of the aesthetics of Architecture.
4. Aesthetic domain of formativity. Poetic model
5. Formal purpose of aesthetics. The reflective judgment.
6. Body, movement and architectural space: the spatial side of memory.
7. Aesthetics of the rhizome: construction under construction.
Conclusion. Examination of the state of aesthetics “after” the sublime.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The aim is for the student to explore a research question and apply the acquired methodologies. During the semester, tutorials will be provided on problem-solving skills, planning and organizing research work, bibliographic selection and written and oral presentation of the work.
