Learning outcomes |
The curricular unit aims to initiate the student in scientific research by applying and integrating knowledge and skills acquired during the study cycle to a given topic of biotechnology, at the level of basic / applied or even industrial research. Students who complete this curricular unit should demonstrate initiative and autonomy, being able to: - Apply knowledge and skills acquired during the study cycle to the chosen biotechnology topic; - Critically search, compile, interpret and integrate information from scientific literature; - Creatively delimit the scientific problem and establish an appropriate study plan; - Execute a set of techniques integrated in the developed plan; - Perform correctly and critically the treatment and analysis of results obtained during the experimental activities; - Present and discuss his work as written and oral to a specific audience. - Create a resume, a letter of application and present him/herself at job interviews.

Syllabus |
Under the chosen theme, the student should in a supervise manner build the research project by describing the state of the art and project objectives, defining the plan and methods and constructing the tasks. If the project includes a laboratory component, the student must also perform the experimental work necessary to achieve the proposed objectives and integrate the results into the final project report. Will also be part of this curricular unit an 8-hour compulsory training course with the following program: - Biotechnology information sources. - How to build a bibliography, computer tools. - Critical and constructive analysis of projects. - Basic tools for entering the job market (such as creating a resume, an application letter, register in a professional network and being able to perform job interviews).
