Learning outcomes |
The objectives of the course are: To apply procedures and rules used by the design community to capture, process and interpret relevant scientific and artistic data with rigour; Identify theoretical and practical aspects of research needed to do research in the different fields of Design, with an appreciable degree of autonomy; Design a final original research work that demonstrates deep knowledge in a relevant design problematic and subject; Recognize methodological, planning and ethical procedures in researching; Select research tools and tasks associated with the different research interests, approaches and goals; To plan a well-structured document by scientific writing. Articulate cross-cutting themes, multiple disciplinary processes, and other societal players to develop synergies and promote innovation spaces; Frame the design research work in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) scope.

Syllabus |
The UC syllabus corresponds directly with the contents to be developed in the research work: 1. Introduction to the research project: general perspective; 2. Scientific, artistic and Research Methods in/by and for Design; 3. Macro and microstructure of the investigative process. Methodological in-depth: 4. Different research approaches: nature, problem, objectives and methodological procedures; 5. Raising research questions and formulating hypotheses; 6. Quantitative and qualitative methods; primary and secondary sources; variables and the quality and quantity of the sample; 6. Main methods, tools and procedures for collecting, processing and presenting data; 8. Publication, replicability and dissemination of research; 9. Inter, multi and transdisciplinarity in research; 10. Ethics, sustainability (SDG) and critical success issues.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
Theoretical-practical teaching will allow the explanation of concepts, the description of procedures, and their practical implementation in an active and open dynamic; the sharing, analysis, and discussion of relevant bibliography in theoretical and methodological domains; the study of case projects of different nature and goals; and the exercises and group discussions will ensure consistency, dexterity, and autonomy for students. The evaluation will consider: 1) observation of attitudes and behaviours through participation in various sessions with innovative and relevant contributions (15%); 2) production of a report or critical review on a work, part of a work or international reference paper, relevant to their research process (40%); 3) development of a methodological proposal, well supported, for a research project he may develop (45%)—evaluation expressed on a scale of 0 to 20 values.
