Learning outcomes The pedagogical objectives of the curricular unit are defined in terms of the competences to be acquired by the students, ranked in three levels, in decreasing order of depth and relative volume of the semester work.
Domain (Proficiency) of
a) Modeling and analysis of building structures;
b) Modeling and analysis of shell structures (reservoirs).
Understanding of
a) Bridge systems and structures;
b) Analysis of structures under wind loads (towers, masts and chimneys).
Recognition of
a) Systems and structures of silos;
b) Strengthening of building structures.
Syllabus 1. Structures of Buildings
Typology and actions; Structural analysis of floor plates; Bracing systems; Elements of building structures: foundations, walls, columns, beams, slabs, joints; Analysis of building structures under horizontal loads by the displacement method; Practical rules for the design of buildings structure.
2. Reservoirs
Introduction to the design of shell structures; Rectangular tanks; Concrete cylindrical reservoirs
3. Deposits for granular materials
Steel metallic silos; Concrete silos
4. Truss steel towers
Actions; Modeling and structural analysis; Design of components
5. Bridges
Typologies; Elementary components; Structural systems; Reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges; Structural analysis with constructive phasing
6. Strengthening of structures
Reasons for strengthening; Evaluation of the real conditions; Methods of reinforcing
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria 1. Teaching methodology:
The syllabus is presented in two types of lectures: theoretical and practical. Students can consult teachers for individual questions and visit the Structures Laboratories for contacting with research works.

2. Evaluation criteria:
CF = 0.30 × TES1 + 0.3 × TES2 + 0.40 × TOR
CF = Final score (0-20)
TES1 = Theoretical written test (0-20)
TES2 = Practical written test (0-20)
TOR = Oriented practical design work (0-20)
