Learning outcomes 1. Understand the stochastic nature of real systems.
2. Learn modeling techniques and tools for stochastic systems.
3. Be able to use simulation software tools to model a system and to estimate performance measures of the system.
4. Be able to present the results of the modeling process in a non-technical presentation.
5. To gain practical and applied experience in the use of simulation tools.
Syllabus 1. Random numbers;
2. Discrete simulation and manual simulation of simple systems;
3. Queue models;
4. State spaces and state transition probabilities;
5. Simulation of queues and manufacturing systems;
6. Markov analysis in continuous time of production systems;
7. Statistical analysis of simulated data;
8. Generation of discrete and continuous random variables;
9. Analysis of input data;
10. Statistical techniques of verification and validation;
11. Analysis of results;
12. Development of simulation models with the Arena software.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The teaching method is based on four different approaches:
- Lectures.
- Practical classes.
- Analysis of case studies.
- Monitoring of development work (programming and execution of simulations).
