Learning outcomes The general objectives of this curricular unit are the following:

1) To provide students with an overview of the basic elements of sensation and perception and to introduce them to philosophical, experimental and biological approaches.
2) To learn about the fundamental aspects of vision and other sensory systems.
3) To develop practical research experience through individual and group work.

Regarding the specific objectives, and at the end of the semester, students should be able to:

1) Identify the determining roles of the cognitive processes;
2) Understand the functioning of memory and its relationship with attention;
3) Apply knowledge of sensation and perception to interpret research results and everyday situations.
4) Evaluate empirical data; conduct research using psychological methods;
5) Collect and independently organize material from various sources;
6) Submit research paper in writing in accordance with APA standards.
Syllabus 1) Introduction.
2) Learning: by classical and operant conditioning.
3) Cognition: Cognitive processes.
4) Attention. Determining factors of attention.
5) Perception. Sensation and perception. Perception as a process. Processing types: ascending and descending.
6) Memory.
7) Visual perception: The visual system. Light, human eye and visual cortex. Color perception.
8) Visual and auditory perception: Integration of different sensory modalities. Perception of distance, depth and movement.
9) Perceptual illusions.
