Learning outcomes |
1. General: -To allow students a first theoretical and practical approach to the multifaceted phenomenon of translation, making them aware of the role of translations and translators in the history of cultures; -Strengthen SFL competence and consolidate previously acquired (multidisciplinary) skills. 2. Specifics: -Know some basic concepts of Translation Studies; -Thoroughly interpret the source text (beginning of the translation process); -Identify translation problems and select appropriate strategies, methods and procedures to overcome them, learning to make choices; -Handle some auxiliary instruments; -(Re)produce texts that are correct (orthographic, grammatical, syntactic level, etc.), adequate (pragmatic-stylistic level) and effective (from a functional and communicative point of view), namely in the translation into the mother tongue; -Recognise, correct and avoid translation errors, especially those derived from Portuguese-Spanish linguistic-cultural proximity.

Syllabus |
-Elementary notions: concepts and basic terminology, methods and technical procedures, the vast field of Translation Studies. -Auxiliary resources and translator/proofreader tools: dictionaries, glossaries, corpora, databases, concordances, forums and other online resources, style manuals, handbooks, parallel texts, etc. -The translation between related languages. -Translating: the process. From reading and interpreting the source text to revising the target text. -The role of translations (and translators), in importing and exporting systems, diachronically and synchronically considered. -The translator, linguistic mediator and cultural mediator. Prejudices and professional perspectives.
