Learning outcomes To define the origins and the concept of Epistemology. To characterize some of the most influential contemporary epistemological theories. To promote the contact and knowledge of the main authors of Epistemology. Encourage and stimulate students' interest regarding the great issues of Epistemology. To stimulate the interest in contemporary epistemological research.To encourage the analysis and understanding of the fundamental texts.
Syllabus I. Introduction. The origins of Epistemology; evolution of the concept. Relationship between Common Sense and Scientific Knowledge. Science and Requirements of Scientifity: importance of Cartesian epistemology II. Some contemporary epistemological theories. Gaston Bachelard and the French epistemological tradition. The Vienna Circle and the logical empiricism. Karl Popper and falsificationism. Thomas Kuhn's notion of "paradigm" and its epistemological implications. Imre Lakatos and the scientific research programs. Feyerabend and Epistemological Pluralism III. Some issues in the domain of Regional Epistemologies a) Topics in Epistemology of the Sciences of Culture: the socio-cultural environment as a condition for the possibility of building knowledge. Scientific and cultural manifestations as a result of a social construction (Schnitman).
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Classes working on a TP register and in close scientific and pedagogical consonance with the learning objectives defined above.
Criteria: two written tests (40% + 40%); 5 report (10%) + final interview (10%). Factors such as the active participation in the proposed activities, attendance (the program was thought assuming the actual presence of the students) punctuality, as well as the students' overall behavior (such as the interest shown, the pertinence or objectivity of the interventions will be some of the points appreciated). Admission to Exam:
. The evaluation that allows access to the Exam is 6 (Six) Values.
. Only those students who meet all the elements for the continuous assessment provided in the item "Evaluation" are admitted to the Exam.
