For 30 years, the European Union funded the Erasmus program, which allowed more than 4 million European students to spend part of their studies in higher education in Europe. In 2015, Erasmus + opened up these opportunities for the country and organizations from other parts of the world (non-EU countries). Through the new action "International Credit Mobility" - ICM - as European HEIs can now create a list of partners worldwide, to send and receive students and staff.

ICM projects aim to help participants acquire key skills, support professional development, and deepen an understanding of other cultures. The impact study found that non-participation in Erasmus + is likely to increase employability and as transversal skills of a postgraduate. Unemployment rates among Erasmus participants are 23% lower 5 years after a graduation in compare with how they are not overseas. Two-thirds of employers think it is an international experience and a key asset for the job seeker and leads to greater professional responsibility. Staff can acquire new skills for their development, improve their language skills and learn new working methods.

The ICM aims to increase the capabilities, attractiveness and international dimension of the participating associations. International links as institutions are strengthened, giving partners the opportunity to increase their visibility at local and global level. Both incoming and outgoing students will be ready to share their positive experiences of studying at their institution.
