At the end of the course, students should be able to: identify the fundamental elements of philosophical naturalism and materialism; recognize and know how to use concepts and notions of philosophy of mind in the context of the proposal in which they are theoretically inserted; explain the presuppositions and principles of neurophilosophy and neurophenomenology; discuss topics of neuroethics.
Syllabus 1. Introduction: naturalism and materialism
2. Body, mind, consciousness - in search of a common discourse?
3. Neurophilosophy and neurophenomenology - (im)possible dialogues
4. Neurophilosophy of action: wanting, feeling and being a person
5. Neuroethics topics
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The final grade will be based on the following assessment elements:
A written test (40%), a written assignment (in pairs) with oral presentation (50%), and class participation (10%). Factors such as active participation in the proposed activities (concept map, question-lesson, and a short essay), assiduity (the program was designed assuming the effective presence of students), punctuality, as well as the overall behavior of students (aspects such as the interest shown, the relevance or objectivity of the interventions will be some of the points assessed) will also be taken into consideration.
