Learning outcomes The general objective of this curricular unit is to provide the student with a body of knowledge and basic skills in the disciplinary area of systematic design. In parallel, the student will develop a computational project directed by a professor of the department. Learning outcomes focus on the following set of skills and competences:
1. Know the Pahl and Pugh systematic project development process, including project planning using Gantt and PERT, as well as familiarize yourself with new trends in digitization, in particular the digital-twin concept.
2. Be able to deepen knowledge and develop a computational project, eventually involving simulation, programming, and optimization, with application to a business case or to support research.
3. Be able to interact with teams, collecting and sharing information.
4. Be able to report a project using the established form for engineering projects and to communicate it in a public presentation.
Syllabus 1. The engineering project.
2. The systematic approach to design, the method of Pahl and Beitz.
3. Project planning using PERT and Gantt.
4. Industry 4.0 and the digital-twin concept.
5. Development of a Computational Mechanical Engineering project.
