EVENTO: De 15 de junho a 30 de novembro de 2013 Fora da UBI Importar iCal Partilha The Population Genomics and Traits Group at CIBIO-University of Porto (http://cibio.up.pt) is seeking a PhD candidate for an ongoing project on Livestock evolutionary history. The successful candidate will deal with full exome sequences and SNPchip genotyping technologies and genomic data from several world-wide distributed populations from three different domestic animal species. This data will be used to assess the recent evolutionary history of these three domesticated species as well as searching for patterns of molecular adaptation to extreme environments. The student will have the opportunity to discuss the work-plan of the thesis with the supervisor and changes can be made to accommodate scientific questions raised by the student.Instructions to Applicants: Candidates shall have MSc degree or equivalent in the field of biology, animal sciences or bioinformatics. High motivation with strong interest in population genomics is highly regarded. Nonetheless, the student shall have a final score of 15 values (20 values scale). Candidates must be fluent in English and willing to work in an international team environment. Only Portuguese citizens or those residents complying the rules from FCT scholarships are eligible to apply. Previous experience with statistics and bioinfomatics (basic experience in Python, Perl, SQL languages) are also recommended.Applicants should submit by email a cover letter describing interests, skills (including any specific experience in genetics), prior scientific experience (if any) , their CV, and the names and contact information of 2 people who can provide letters of reference.
