Summer Schools are international courses organized outside of traditional academic structures and they normally take place in the summer, during one or two weeks. These courses are intended for national/international students and recent graduates promoting meeting point for discussion of specific subjects, contact with expertises, international teachers and, at the same time, share cultural and every-day experience during a brief period.
“Composite Materials: from basic to nano” is a Summer School organized at UBI since 2011 and, along these years, several experts from Portugal, Poland, Romania and Spain had presence in this event. Different companies participated in these events in order to transmit the practical knowledge and their real experiences. It is possible to say that the successes of these events have brought students from other universities to the UBI in order to share these experiences.
Providing more than 50% of time in laboratories, students can have an unforgettable experience. They manufacture the composites, using different techniques, and perform experimental tests to evaluate the mechanical performance of those materials. This practical experience is very important to understand the high specific strength and the high specific stiffness of these materials and the participants have, in real context, the reason why composites are replacing the traditional materials in all type of industries.
In this context, with the support of "Agencia Nacional de Aprendizagem ao longo da vida" (Erasmus Intensive Programme with agreement number - 2013-1-PT1-ERA10-16665-P Covilha01), this edition of the Summer school “Composite Materials: from basic to nano” will be held between July 14 to 25 and will be present students from Portugal (UBI and University of Coimbra), Spain (University of Corboba), Poland (Bialystok Technical University) and Romania (Technical University of IASI). National teachers (from UBI and University of Coimbra), international teachers (from Poland, Spain and Romania) and several invited companies are the responsible by the different lectures.
