How to reach COVILHÃ

Covilhã is located in the central region of Portugal near Serra da Estrela Natural Parque and it can be reached by car, train or bus.

Arriving at Oporto airport

Porto is served by Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO). Several companies (including low cost)fly to Porto, like Aigle Azur, Air Berlin, Air France, Brussels Airlines, Clickair, Easyjet, Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Sata International or TAP Air Portugal.

By TRAIN

The train line to Covilhã is called the “Linha da Beira Baixa” which is linked to the Lisbon-Oporto line through the Entroncamento station

1.The best way to leave the airport is using the Metro (follow the sign). You should step out at Campanhã station (Estação de Campanhã).
2.From Estação de Campanhã (Campanhã station) you take the train “Intercidades” to Entroncamento and another one to Covilhã (see www.cp.pt).

By BUS

You can reach Covilhã from Oporto by bus. In that case take a taxi at the airport to the Bus station “Rodoviária Beira Litoral – Garagem Atlântico” (check www.rede-expressos.pt for the timetable - site only in Portuguese )

By CAR

There are several rent-a-car companies operating from the Oporto airport like Avis or Hertz (rent a car). They are located at Level 0 in the arrival-area and are open from 07:00 am to 00:00 am (every day).

Driving your car, you should follow highway A28 (direction Lisboa A1), then A1 (direction Lisboa), leave A1 at exit-Guarda and follow first A25 and then A23 (direction Covilhã) leave A23 at exit- HospitalCovilhã Norte, ~260 km.

Lisbon is served by Humberto Delgado Airport which stands inside Lisbon city. From there you can proceed:

By TRAIN

1.If you arrive at Aeroporto de Lisboa (LIS), you should get a taxi to Gare do Oriente (about 5 min drive, less than 10€). 
2.At Oriente train station you should go to the upper ticketing level at the station and buy a ticket for an “Intercidades” train to Covilhã (see www.cp.pt).

By BUS

You can reach Covilhã from Lisbon by bus. In that case take a taxi at the airport to Bus station “Sete Rios” (check www.rede-expressos.pt for the timetable - site only in Portuguese) and buy a ticket to Covilhã.

By CAR

There are several rent-a-car companies operating from the Lisbon airport like Avis, Hertz or Europcar. They are located at the arrivals lobby.
Driving your car, you should follow highway A1 (direction Norte Alverca) leave A1 at exit-Torres Novas and follow A23 (direction Castelo Branco - Covilhã), ~270 km.

A bus will be provided on the morning of May 22nd to take everybody interested from Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon) to Covilhã:– that will be announced timely.
