Learning outcomes At the end of this curricular unit, the student shall be able to understand the theoretical foundations of recording biomedical signals, understand its scope of application and its limitations. He/she will be able to apply analytical methods the biomedical signals collected in laboratory context or made available in online libraries, in particular to electrocardiographic, electromyographic, electroencephalographic and accelerometry signals.
Syllabus - Foundations of biomedical signals
- Information theory
- the Electrocardiography signal (ECG)
- the Electroencephalography signal (EEG)
- the Electromyography signal
- the Accelerometry signals
- Acquisition of biomedical signals. Spectrum of interest (ECG, EEG, Accelerometry)
- Signal conditioning techniques
- Analogue and digital filters
- Frequency response
- the Electromyography signal
- the Accelerometry signals
- Pattern recognition
- Spectral, difuse classifications and biosignal processing algorithms.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Students are continuously assessed through academic work throughout the semester, through a set of two synthesis papers, carried out during the semester, in the form of a scientific article, subject to presentation and discussion.
This assessment system (by papers) also applies during exam periods, for students who were unable to complete the assessment during the regular period or, if they were able to, wish to improve their grade. In this case, a more comprehensive paper is considered, covering all the material, and is also subject to presentation and discussion.
