Learning outcomes . Vertically and horizontally deepen some of the more significant Theories of Culture, thus fully achieving the goal, started on the former semester, of getting students, regardless of their scientific origins, familiar with the conceptual framework and the more consequent theoretical base decisions in the area of Studies on Culture;
.To sponsor among students broad critical and conceptual capacities regarding the operationalization of problems linked to the area of Studies on Culture;
. Surrounded by a dialogical atmosphere, placed in a horizon intentionally open to all kinds of enquiring and projected in a interinstitutional context at the same time wide and near, to get students familiar with the diversity of available strategies to handle increasing complexity of cultural phenomena;
. Make students aware of the scientific and pedagogical orientation identified as the most suitable for the full achievement of their training goals.
Syllabus Section I - Culture and Civilization; Nature and Culture; Culture and the Post-Human.
Section II - Idiosyncrasy of cultural phenomena in the broadest framework of the “language” of science: the need of new methodological procedures and constraining the ground of a predominantly “interpretative” science; the hermeneutical path and the intention to think culture as a “text”: its consequences; From the claimed normality of “normal” science to the emptiness, launched as “procedure” by the “dense description”, coined by the withdrawal of the pair “hypotheses-tests”. The 'vexata quaestio' of the interpretative science of Geertz: what place (if any) for the natural-scientific research of cultural phenomena? The place of Culture(s) in the scientific culture. Lipovetsky and the Reflection on Culture in the Hypermodern Era.
