Learning outcomes The objective of this Course Unit is to teach physics concepts useful for Pharmaceutical Science, specifically in the areas of fluids, surface phenomena, transport phenomena, and optics.
Upon completing the course unit the student should be able to:
Explain elementary laws of fluid physics and use them to analyze practical situations including flow and centrifugation.
Describe phenomena associated with surfaces and interfaces, including consequences of surface tension, adsorption and surfactants, the double electric layer and electrokinetic phenomena, and colloidal systems.
Describe diffusion phenomenology, explain Brownian motion, Fick's laws, and osmosis.
Apply the laws of reflection and refraction.
Describe the wave nature of light propagation and polarization.
Explain and apply refractometry and polarimetry.
