Learning outcomes This Curricular Unit has the following objectives:
- To introduce to the study of the theorization of social justice as a concept
- Allow the exploration of the main theories of Justice in contemporary political thought
- Make students aware of the current trends of debate about Justice
- Encourage reflection and discussion around the main issues and concrete problems that concern Justice in the current socio-political horizon.
Syllabus 1. The problem of justice in a political community
1.1 The concept of social justice and its aspects
1.2 The idea of just institutions
1.3 Main themes and concrete topics (income, property, inheritance, extended redistribution, etc.)

2. Main theories of justice in contemporary political thought
2.1 Theories with an egalitarian approach
2.2 Theories with a libertarian approach
2.3 Theories with a communitarian approach
3. Current trends in the debate about justice
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria - 1 written test (50% of the final mark)
- 1 essay on theories of justice based on readings from the indicated bibliography, accompanied by presentation and discussion (40% of the final mark)
- Active participation (10% of the final mark)
