Learning outcomes This course unit aims to teach the basic knowledge to classify the main types of reactions in organic chemistry and its understanding through its mechanism.
At the end of the course unit the student should be able to combine the basic knowledge learned in the course unit with an adequate bibliographic support, in order to predict and classify the chemical behavior of compounds belonging to the main functional groups.

Lab classes and theoretical practices:
- Reduction of indolin-2,3-dione with NaBH4 and with NH2NH2
- A Practical Example of Using Microwave in Organic Synthesis
- Curved arrows in Organic Chemistry. Introduction to Reaction Mechanisms

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Oral presentation of matter with the help of the frame and slide, with great teacher-student interactivity,
promoting discussion between students and teacher to ensure the participation and interest in the subjects
taught. The classes are divided into laboratory classes, where students made the synthesis of organic
compounds, and lessons of resolution of problems related to the subjects taught. Students will develop a
seminar on a theme, relating the knowledge learned in organic synthesis or modification of compounds,
establishing a written work which, at the end of the semester, will be presented to colleagues. Learner
assessment is conducted on an ongoing basis are considered three evaluation factors:
15% P% S + 20 + 65% T where:
T = marks obtained in written tests during the teaching-learning or examination period;
S = grade obtained in the seminar;
P = performance evaluation laboratory
