Learning outcomes On successful completion of this course unit, students should be able to:
• acquire familiarity with active and passive flow control techniques
• explain the effect of Reynolds number on flow control
• Explain the effect of various flow control techniques on boundary layer transition and separation.
• Explain the effect of flow control on Drag reduction and mixing enhancement.
• Conduct simple simulations of active flow control systems

• Physical Concepts Underlying the Development and Application of Active Flow Control
• Flow Control Terminology, Transition control, separation control
• Role of Instability Theory in Flow Control
• Dynamic and Closed-Loop Control
• Actuators and Sensors
• Modeling and Simulation
• Application of flow control for fixed Wing Airfoil Applications, Turbomachinery Applications, Combustion Control, Aeroacoustics of Flow Control
