Learning outcomes On successful completion of this course unit, students should be able to:
• Understand the governing flow equations for common flow problems and to understand why discretization of a domain into a mesh is required.
• Understand why boundary conditions need to be applied
• Understand numerical solution methods and their limitations
• Construct a case for the simulation of an incompressible, steady state, fluid flow in OpenFoam
• To Conduct more advanced CFD simulations in OpenFoam
Syllabus • Introduction to CFD
• Mathematical description of the physical phenomena: conservation equations
• Finite volume methods and Space and time discretization of the physical domain
• Mesh generation
• Application to problems of Problems of pure diffusion
• Application to problems of Advection and diffusion
• Application to problems of Flow field calculation
• CFD application to practical configurations.
