Learning outcomes |
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Select and apply Probability and Statistics methods to solve problems in the domain of Web-oriented Computer Science;
- Contribute to the design and execution of studies involving statistical data analysis using R, and critically interpret the results obtained.

Syllabus |
1. Descriptive Statistics: frequency tables and graphical representations for univariate and bivariate statistical variables; descriptive measures of location, dispersion, and shape.
2. Introduction to Probability Theory: axioms and properties of probability; conditional probability and independence of events; discrete and continuous random variables; Binomial and Normal distributions; properties of the sample mean.
3. Introduction to Statistical Inference: point and interval estimation; hypothesis testing.
4. Simple Linear Regression: simple linear regression model; least squares method; interpretation of coefficients and assessment of goodness of fit.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The assessment of knowledge and skills acquired by students during the teaching-learning process is done by means of three tests (T1, T2 and T3, rated from 0 to 20) with weights of 0.2, 0.35 and 0.45 respectively.
The final teaching-learning classification (CEA,,expressed in 0 to 20 values) is calculated as follows
CEA=0.2T1 + 0.35T2 + 0.45T3.
Final exam exemption is granted when the CEA is equal to or higher than 9.5 points, requiring a minimum score of 1 point in each test and an
attendance of more than 80% of the classes. The grade of ``FREQUENCY'' is awarded.when CEA is less than 9,5 points.
Grades above 18 points are defended with an oral exam.
