Learning outcomes This curricular unit aims to provide students with the technical and artistic foundations of photography applied to cinema. At the end of the course, students should be able to handle any photographic equipment, as well as make creative and technical decisions regarding framing and exposure. Including:
Understanding the fundamental principles of the photographic image: exposure, composition and control of light.
Using equipment independently and effectively.
Exploring visual aesthetics and cinematographic language
Developing a critical eye on the use of light, texture and framing in the context of visual narrative.
Acquiring the autonomous ability to create, observe and interpret images individually and in groups.
Syllabus I - Pre-production
1. Cameras, lenses, and accessories
1.1 Understanding Exposure: ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture
1.2 Composition and Photographic Vision
1.3 Lenses, Depth of Field, and Focal Lengths
2. Practical Exercises with Light and Camera
2.1 Controlling the Image: Equipment, Techniques, and Solutions
2.2 Types of Lighting
2.3 The Functions of the Image Team
II - Post-Production
1.1 Introduction to Color Theory
1.2 Properties of Color
1.3 Theory and Psychology of Color in Art
1.4 The Relationship between Cinema and Painting
1.5 History of Color and Image Post-Production in Cinema
1.6 Color Correction, DaVinci Resolve, LUTs, Curves, Levels, and Scopes
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The curricular unit adopts a theoretical-practical approach, combining:
Lectures to introduce theoretical concepts.
Practical sessions indoors and outdoors to apply photography and lighting techniques.
Implementation of individual and group projects that simulate real film production situations.
Viewing and analysis of work developed by students during the school year.
Continuous assessment involves carrying out practical exercises in class, which will be subject to later analysis and discussion. Promoting the improvement of methods and techniques.
Each student will carry out individual and group work.
