Learning outcomes With this curricular unit we intend to discuss th e guidelines of current educational policies in the context of
globalization, transnationalization and territorialization and to analyze the Portuguese educational reality considering
these trends.
At the end of this curricular unit, the student must be able to
1. understand the current educational policies in the light of the contexts of globalization, transnationalization and
policies of territorial / local level;
2. interpret the legal framework th at regulates the current Portuguese educational system;
3. analyze relevant research in the field of Educational Policies and Organization of Educat ion;
4. express ideas in a reasoned manner, drawing on oral and written communication;
5. develop collaborative skills;
6. assume the responsibility for his/her learning.
Syllabus 1. Introductory Issues: Education and Society. The centrality of school education in contemporary societies. The future of school as a public good.
2. Concept of Educational Policy; Meaning and framework; Horizon of current educational policies: Globalization and Transnationalization of Education; European and World Education Policies: Guiding principles and actors.
3. Organization and structure of the current Portuguese educational system. The autonomy of schools; Curriculum organization and management; Inclusive schooling; Education and training of young people and adults; The status of the teaching career and teacher professionalism; Evaluation of the educational system.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The assessment of the skills acquired by students will be carried out through:
1. Portfolio (50%) (individual work – compilation of work carried out in practical classes);
2. Group work (50%) (with oral presentation) on one of the themes from the third point of the program.
