Learning outcomes |
This course unit aims to reveal the possible contexts of the application of Biomedical Sciences and promote the implementation of methodologies for bibliographic search, data analysis, and fundamental laboratory techniques. At the end of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Identify the fields of action of Biomedical Sciences professionals. 2. Distinguish different ways to communicate science. 3. Develop bibliographic search skills, using the most relevant databases for scientific papers in the field of Biomedical Sciences. 4. To understand the scientific results and experimental approaches presented in the Scientific Seminars. 5. To analyze and present data. 6. To perform laboratory techniques/methodologies relevant to Biomedical Sciences.
|
Syllabus |
1. Perspectives in Biomedical Sciences – What are Biomedical Sciences? Current challenges to Biomedical Sciences professionals. 2. Scientific seminars: presentation of current scientific topics, within the scope of Biomedical Sciences, by professionals/researchers in the field; 3. Acquisition of practical skills in biomedical sciences; 4. Methodologies for bibliographic search: introduction to the databases relevant to Biomedical Sciences; 5. Scientific communication and divulgation: basic and applied research; types and structure of scientific documents; 6. Analysis and discussion of scientific papers; 7. Visits to research laboratories at the departments of Physics and Engineering at UBI, to the Health Sciences Research Center (CICS) at the Health Sciences Faculty, and to the healthcare business incubator at UBI (UBIMedical).
