Learning outcomes This Curricular Unit (CU) intends to inform and contextualize the contemporary activity and the theoretical reflection of and about design. At the end of the semester, the student should be able to:
a) Explain and evaluate different Design concepts and practices;
b) Prepare a critical speech on the covered topics;
c) Relate the discussed issues with the contemporary practice of Fashion (and) Design;
d) Understand the various dimensions of the current association between Design and technology;
e) Reflect on the implications and possible consequences of Design's action and impact in the world, in everyday life and in our future, taking into account the socio-economic, ethical and political impact of Fashion Design;
f) Consider and apply the acquired knowledge in the critical assessment of Fashion Design.

Contemporary discourses on Fashion (and) Design.
Theory and Criticism in Design.
Metamorphosis of the concept and understanding of Value.

Design as material culture and object of mediation.
Total design and dematerialization.

Creative processes. Reference / Citation / Copy.
Design as obstacle and violence.
Body and sense(s).

Counter-culture(s).
Design, memory and change.
Political impact, ethics and social responsibility.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The teaching methodologies applied to this UC involve the exposition and critical discussion of the program contents using support materials in different formats, incentivizing the students to position themselves critically, expose and substantiate their opinions, and systematize study and research results, presenting them both orally and in writing.
All students who attend the continuous assessment period have access to the exam, in any of the periods defined for it (Normal / Appeal), within the guidelines and regulations of University of Beira Interior.
