The Organizing Committee is glad to invite you to the “Grande Auditório“ of Health Sciences Faculty (Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde; FCS) in July 2012 to the VII ANNUAL CICS SYMPOSIUM 2012.
The CICS-UBI annual Symposium functions as forum to inform and debate the research developments of the CICS-UBI research groups, namely concerning the PhD and MSc students. The symposium allows the presentation by the students of the last progress of their undergraduate and post-graduate research projects.
The communication and publication of the research outputs is an essential component of the research activities. Also, the cooperation and communication among the CICS-UBI members is other important aspect in order to improve the efficiency of our research Centre. We encourage everybody involved in the development of CICS-UBI research lines to come for inspiration and exchange of ideas.
The present Symposium is open to the academic community, particularly to students of the 1st, 2nd and 3th cycles in the following areas: Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Vision Sciences.

ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION
a) The abstracts must be written in English.
b) Abstract should include: Title, introduction, methods, results, conclusions, keywords (max 5) and if applicable acknowledgements and references.
c) The authors must use the abstract template form of the Symposium to submit your abstracts. The abstract is limited to one page of the available template.
d) The authors are completely responsible for the abstract content.

PRESENTATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS AND POSTERS
PhD students should perform Oral Presentations. MSc and undergraduate students should make short communications or posters (they should indicate its preference in the abstract submission form).
The official languages at the symposium will be Portuguese and English. The Oral Presentations and posters must be in English. The short communications can be in Portuguese or English.
Accepted abstracts will be selected by the organizing committee. Presenters will be informed about the precise time of their presentations.
Slide presentations: All authors are required to deliver their oral presentations the 2th of July until 14:30 to the secretariat.
Prizes: Three prizes for CICS-UBI members will be awarded in the following categories:
a) PhD student oral presentation;
b) MSc/undergraduate students short communication;
c) Poster presentation.
REGISTRATION
A certificate of attendance to the Symposium will be issued to registered participants.
1) Complete registration is 13,00 € and includes abstracts book, certificate, coffee/tea breaks and dinner.
2) Simple registration is 3,00 € and includes abstracts book, certificate and coffee/tea breaks.
