Programa

11:00 Periklis Chatzimisios, Alexander TEI of Thessaloniki, Greece, Machine-to-Machine and Internet of Everything: Standardization and research challenges

Abstract: The last few years we have experienced a massive reference and research on Internet of Things (IoT) or Internet or Everything (IoE) that connects people, data and things by employing Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications. The obvious targets are to create new and unprecedented opportunities as well as to provide richer experiences to citizens and communities. The talk will firstly provide an introduction on the technical details and applications of M2M and IoE as well as their impact on enterprises and individuals by focusing on the hot areas of Smart Cities, Smart Grid and Smart Home. In addition, an exhaustive picture of standardization initiatives and activities will be provided, focusing on the emerging IEEE 802.15.4 MAC and IETF 6LoWPAN/ROLL networking protocols as well as on the ETSI TC M2M and 3GPP LTE-A MTC technologies. Along the talk, major research challenges and open issues will be identified, therefore making the presentation valuable and inspiring for academics and researchers.

Dr. Periklis Chatzimisios serves as an Associate Professor at the Alexander TEI of Thessaloniki - ATEITHE (Greece). He is currently a Visiting Academic/Researcher in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and University of Toronto (Canada). Since 2010, Dr. Chatzimisios serves as a Member of the Standards Development Board for the IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc). He is also very active in several IEEE activities such as serving as Secretary of the IEEE Technical Committee on Cognitive Networks (TCCN) and as Secretary of the IEEE 1907.1 Working Group. He is Senior Member of IEEE and the Counselor of the IEEE Student Branch in ATEITHE. Dr. Chatzimisios has served as Organizing/TPC Committee member for more than 150 conferences and Founder/Organizer/Co-Chair for many Workshops which are co-allocated with major IEEE conferences.

He also holds editorial board positions for several IEEE/non-IEEE journals and he is acting as co-Director for the E-letter of the IEEE Technical Committee on Multimedia Communications (MMTC). He is the author/editor of 5 books and more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. His published research work has received more than 1000 citations by other researchers. He received his Ph.D. from Bournemouth University (UK) (2005) and his B.Sc. from Alexander TEI of Thessaloniki, Greece (2000).
