Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the hardware and software components during the design and optimization of a modular logger platform. We are looking for someone that will be a major contributor during the development of a low cost, small and rugged data-logger, which can be connected to a series of digital and analog sensors. Candidates should have a solid background in electronics and will work in close collaboration with a team of marine biologists and engineers, and should lead the entire process of hardware design which will integrate microcontrollers, analog and digital sensors, memory, data communication and battery management. Duties include PCB hardware layout (surface mount design), mechanical design, troubleshooting of design issues, signal modulation and processing, microcontroller programing, data processing and storage, onboard power management, and optimization of wired and wireless communications.
Desired Skills and Experience
· Bachelor's, Masters or PhD in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent experience);
· Ability to make judgments, with management guidance, using sound engineering principles and techniques;
· PCB design software;
· Electrical and mechanical aspects of printed circuit board design and manufacturing;
· PCB design standards for surface mount and through hole designs;
· Integration of basic analog building blocks for signal acquisition;
· Digital and analog signal processing;
· Microcontroller programming;
· Familiarity with debugging and test equipment, tools and methodologies;
· Capability to work both independently and concurrently within a small team environment.
· Creative thinking, interest in applied science, willing to work in a team, communication, organizational and reporting skills.
· Excellent communication skills in English are valued.
Selection Criteria
Firstly, candidates will be ranked based on:
· Professional experience (40%).
· The relevance of academic degree(s) (20%).
· Academic track record, including authorship in publications, presentations and patents (20%).
· Motivation letter (20%).
Secondly, the top-most ranked candidates will be interviewed. The interview will focus on the motivation of the candidate and his or her knowledge on the subject of this call. The interview may also include a technical discussion and/or technical questions. The jury will not choose any of the candidates if they all fail to demonstrate their fit to the position.
