Learning outcomes - Perform the sequence of appropriate eye exams for the visual evaluation of patients with specific profiles.
- Apply a visual screening protocol to specific populations and draft referral reports to other health professionals.
Syllabus Practical / clinical skills:
- Perform the appropriate ocular exams for the visual and visual-percetual evaluation of a pediatric patient.
- Apply a visual pediatric screening protocol to children with redaction of a referral report to other health care professionals.
- Perform the appropriate ocular exams for the visual evaluation of a geriatric patient.
- Apply a protocol of visual geriatric screening to the elderly with redaction of a referral report to other health professionals.
- Perform the appropriate ocular exams for the visual evaluation of a low vision patient.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching methodologies integrating: practical laboratory classes for practice of clinical procedures, resolution of exercises to exemplify the calculation of vision parameters necessary to clinical practice regarding specific populations and acquisition of the knowledge necessary for writing referral reports to other health professionals; tutorial classes with real patients for supervised application of screening protocols to pediatric and geriatric populations in nurseries and nursing homes; training complemented with self-study. Evaluation using practical tests of clinical procedures for specific populations in laboratory environment and referral reports for other health professionals, regarding pediatric and geriatric patients.
